Newton’s Attic – The Galileo Tower $700.00. This project focuses on creating social change by introducing innovative ways to teach young people about science, math and engineering. Students participate in the design and fabrication of a large exciting physics demonstration that provides hands on experience with the engineering process. Participants combine their creativity and building skills with their knowledge of math and physics to create components of the Galileo Tower, which is then used to teach other students about certain physical principles. By being a part of this endeavor, students get to see real world applications of their skills and knowledge, giving relevancy to their education.

Susmita Barua – Author $600.00 K.T. Brown Gift of Writing/Howe Charities Annual Grant. A creative nonfiction book project aiming to heighten global human awareness, human potential, individual creativity and responsibility. Historically social change has been initiated by a few individuals and committed citizens, most evidently during the Renaissance period in all cultures and civilizations. We are in the beginning of such a Renaissance in human consciousness, which for the first time will affect all levels of society. This work will help people understand individuality and enable readers to get in touch with their inner potential and creativity in ways that benefit both the individual and society at large. The work is meant to show that the interest of the Individual and Society are not mutually opposed by helping to bring clarity at many levels of everyday perception and beliefs that arise from dualistic material thinking.
